Commercial Litigation PL (DFM #909)

Global law firm that provides full-service legal advice from locations across the United States and in London and Shanghai is seeking a highly experienced Commercial Litigation Paralegal to assist attorneys in the coordination, management, and supervision of all aspects of complex litigation.  This position will require client contact.  Will maintain professionalism and strict confidentiality in all client and firm matters.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

-Organize and maintain documentation for complex case management matters.

-Advise attorneys of status dates and change.

-Maintain familiarity with key witness files.

-Assist in the preparation of documents for trial.

-Assist attorneys with complex caseload research, subject and topic research, and briefing of court cases.

-Determine and maintain electronic database needs for large case management and monitor databases.

-Summarize depositions, arbitration transcripts, briefs, etc.

-Prepare draft responses to pleadings, interrogatories, and requests for admissions for discovery matters.

-Coordinate the set-up of electronic media for trial purposes.

-Maintain up-to-date time reports to ensure accurate client billing.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

-On a case-by-case basis, may supervise the work performed by Project Assistant and/or Paralegal I and II staff.

-Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Firm’s policies and applicable laws.

-Responsibilities include interviewing, training, and providing input into the performance appraisal process.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

-Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years work experience in the litigation practice area preferably in a law firm environment.

-Working knowledge of Electronic Case Filing (CM/ECF) procedures is required.

-Legal research knowledge and ability to use law library are required.

-Paralegal certificate from an ABA approved paralegal program a plus!

-Must have litigation experience form discovery phase through actual trial, as well as, experience handling numerous litigation suits at the same time.

-Must have substantive Federal criminal discovery experience, with extensive working knowledge in this area of law.

-Computer proficiency with working knowledge of Westlaw and other litigation-related databases and litigation support software (including advanced working knowledge of Concordance, Relativity, TextMap), including but not limited to, running and monitoring complex electronic document products, internet research, due diligence, Excel, Outlook and MS Word preferred.

-Exhibit high degree of initiative with excellent analytical, technical and critical-thinking skills requiring an aptitude for detail, precision, and logic in order to analyze and research litigation-related data, process information, conduct legal research, etc.

-Excellent organizational skills including record keeping, data collection, and system information.  Ability to compile and analyze data and furnish concise detailed information in report format, written correspondence, email or verbally.

-Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.  Ability to communicate with diplomacy, follow written and verbal instructions, and maintain effective relationships with a diverse group of attorneys, clients, staff, etc.

-Dependable team player who works collaboratively and cooperatively with others in a team-oriented environment.

-Ability to organize, prioritize, and supervise numerous tasks form inception to completion.

-Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, detail-oriented work environment, and adapt to changes in workflow.

-Possess excellent knowledge of writing, grammar, spelling, proofreading and formatting in order to interpret source data, prepare litigation documents and forms, proofread material for grammatical, typographical, and spelling errors, and perform file maintenance.
