Large, international law firm in Uptown is seeking a Media Relations Specialist to join their growing law firm!

 

The primary role of this exempt position is to further the firm’s overall communications and media relations efforts. In coordination with the Director of Media Relations and Communications Manager, the Media Relations Specialist handles various key functions that enhance the firm’s profile.

Essential Duties:

Content Creation:

  • Writes and edits press releases, internal news announcements, marketing collateral and award nominations, in consultation with lawyers and department colleagues;
  • Works with team members to curate and update news and PR content on the firm’s website;
  • Works with practice groups on special content projects;
  • Provides content writing, editing and proofreading support within the Business Development Department as needed;
  • Takes the lead in drafting and editing social media posts and securing lawyer approval.

Social Media:

  • Maintains a social media editorial calendar that ensures we consistently communicate important stories and milestones throughout the year;
  • Works directly with lawyers to gather necessary information, educate them about social media best practices, and periodically update and enhance their social media profiles;
  • Tracks social media usage, engagement and other relevant analytics and analyzes legal industry trends to ensure firm follows social media best practices;
  • Monitors social media engagement to ensure comments are in line with PR objectives.

Media Coordination:

  • In coordination with external public relations specialists, works with lawyers to help coordinate interviews with reporters and to publish articles in media outlets.

Video/Podcasts:

  • Assists with the production and scripting of podcasts and video communications;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Reporting Relationship:

The Media Relations Specialist reports to the Communications Manager.

Qualifications:

Knowledge/Experience:

The Media Relations Specialist must have a minimum of two years’ experience in journalism, public relations or marketing. Familiarity with social media marketing and communication is required. Knowledge of the legal industry is preferred as is experience with podcasting and video production.

Skills:

The Media Relations Specialist must display excellent interpersonal relations. Oral and written communication skills, including knowledge of AP Style, and project management skills required. Experience with PowerPoint, Excel, Vuture, Sitecore, Smartsheet, Hootsuite, Photoshop, and Zencastr is preferred. He or she must possess a strong customer service attitude, be self-motivated, independent, and be able to oversee the performance of key tasks with minimal supervision. It is imperative that he or she is able to prioritize, organize, and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Writing samples are required.

Education:

Bachelors degree required. Major in Communications, Mass Communications, Journalism or Marketing preferred.
