Job Description:

Well-known, national law firm, is seeking a highly qualified Commercial Litigation Paralegal to support various attorneys in their Dallas office.  This paralegal will work under the supervision of the Paralegal Committee and Assigned Attorney(s).   Provides supporting legal and factual research and document preparation, gathering, organization and submission to assist Attorneys and other Paralegals.  The main Shareholder focuses his litigation practice in the areas of commercial, bankruptcy, banking, creditor’s rights, and oil and gas litigation.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Researches statutes, regulations, rules, judicial decisions, legal articles, treaties, constitutions, and codes as requested by the attorneys.
  • Drafts correspondence, pleadings, subpoenas, motions, discovery requests and responses, proposed orders, and documents required to initiate legal proceedings and appeals for review, approval, and use by Attorneys in federal and bankruptcy courts.
  • Investigates facts by reviewing documents, interviewing witnesses, and searching public records and e-filling; prepares chronologies, summaries, memoranda, charts, and affidavits concerning facts and data for review, approval, and use by Attorneys.
  • Coordinates conventional and electronic filing of pleadings, motions, briefs, proposed orders and other submissions with court clerk; obtains dates for hearings and assists in docketing pleading, discovery, pretrial, briefing, and other deadlines.
  • Assist attorneys with drafting, revision and filing of proofs of claim, motions to lift stay, liens, garnishments, domestications of foreign judgment and sheriff’s sale pleadings and other creditors’ rights actions in bankruptcy, state, and federal courts.
  • Arranges and coordinates service of subpoenas to witnesses and parties to legal proceedings.
  • Gathers and organizes relevant documents and potential exhibits for review and use by Attorneys in discovery, hearings, trails, and appeals; identifies privileged and confidential information in client documents for review by Attorneys.
  • Hires and supervises outside copying services, investigators, process servers, court reporting services and temporary clerical help as needed.
  • Summarizes testimony from depositions, hearings, and trials, and searches electronic litigation databases as directed by Attorneys.
  • Reviews accuracy and validity of citations and quotes in briefs, prepares indices and tables as required for briefs; organizes exhibits and appendices for briefs.
  • Assists in scheduling and preparing witnesses for testimony at depositions, hearings, and trials.
  • Reviews local court rules and coordinates with court personnel in preparation for hearings and trials; organizes and supervises delivery and pick-up of exhibits, supplies, and presentation equipment as needed for hearings and trials.
  • Assist Attorneys with exhibits, presentations, and witness scheduling during hearings and trials; conducts post-trial interviews of jurors.
  • Compiles records for appeals in state and federal courts; coordinates with court clerks and court reporters on timely completion of record for appeal.
  • Completes daily, thorough and accurate timekeeping and billing entries.
  • Law firm experience is preferred supporting partners and associates.
  • Firm uses iManage and Aderant along with Microsoft Office Suite.

Qualifications:

  • Education and/or Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree from 4 year college; or Associate’s degree and at least 2 year’s prior experience; or High School Diploma or at least 5 year’s prior experience.
  • Ability to effectively present information to clients, opposing counsel, court personnel, regulatory agencies, public groups and/or boards of directors.
  • Prefer certification as a Paralegal/Legal Assistant

Compensation & Benefits:

The firm provides an excellent benefit package to include parking and paid overtime.  Billables are 1250/year.
